Description – This course covers safety practices, pre-trip inspection and maintenance of the truck, plow, and spreader.  Additionally, there is discussion of vehicle operation, plowing and salting techniques, and identification of different snow conditions.  This course is all classroom-based – there are no driving exercises.  If available at the training site, snow plowing equipment may be viewed as part of the pre-trip inspection discussion.

Who Should Attend? – This course is applicable to local agency employees involved in Snow and Ice Operations.

Instructor – The instructor will be Gary D. Browning, CPM, Training Manager and Safety Circuit Rider for the Ohio LTAP Center.  His background includes over 30 years of experience in Public Works local government. Gary earned his Road Master certificate in 2012 and earned his Certified Public Manager (CPM) from the John Glenn School of Public Affairs, OSU in 2014.

Registration Information – This course offering through LTAP is intended primarily for local agency officials and employees (county, city, village and township).  Registrations are processed in the order they are submitted online, while seats are still available.  The registration fee is $48 per person for government employees and $120 for non-government employees.  Lunch is “on your own”.  Any registrant requiring a reasonable accommodation during training (i.e., mobility or access) should contact Ohio LTAP prior to the course date so the appropriate arrangements can be made.  If you are sick or not feeling well, please DO NOT attend the course.  If you need to cancel your registration, please contact the LTAP office.



Registration Type Instructions: Public employees (local, state, or federal) should choose Government. All others should choose Private.

Promo Code Information

The promo codes below apply to specific groups of class participants.  Please ONLY use a code if it applies to you.  If you are not certain if it applies, please contact the Ohio LTAP Center at ltap@dot.ohio.gov or 614-387-7359 or 1-877-800-0031.  Do not randomly select a promo code and use it.  Your registration will be reviewed by the center registrar and cancelled if you have used a code which did not apply to you.

FHWAOHDIV - Code to be used by Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Division Staff only when registering for LTAP courses.  Provides the FHWA LTAP discount on the course price.

ODOTEMPL - Code that must be used by ALL ODOT employees when registering for a course. Do not enter payment information or request an invoice.  If you are an ODOT employee, you MUST use this code unless the class is a NHI self-pay course.  See below.

PAYBYCHECK - ODOT EMPLOYEE ATTENDING A NHI-SELF-PAY COURSE - Use code PAYBYCHECK if you are an ODOT employee.  Then enter your Divison, Cost Center and SAC number in the designated field on the registration form.

PAYBYCHECK - This code should be entered when you want the Ohio LTAP Center to bill you for the course fee instead of paying immediately online via credit card.  Once your registration is completed with this code, an invoice for the amount due will be sent to you, due upon receipt.
