Description – This course provides a well-balanced mix of lessons, demonstrations and exercises for a comprehensive intro to two-dimensional modeling concepts, including background data necessary to support a model, hydraulic modeling parameters, mesh development, model simulation parameters, model calibration, hydraulic structures, and reviewing two dimensional model results.  Extracting hydraulic parameters for use in bridge scour evaluation is also discussed.  Each concept is demonstrated with hands-on exercises to apply it.  Upon completion, participants should recognize situations where two-dimensional modeling is preferred and use SMS to successfully compile, execute and review results for a SRH-2D model on a bridge or other hydraulic structure project.

Prerequisites:  Course participants should have knowledge of the fundamentals of open channel flow hydraulics. The free web-based training course, NHI 135091 “Basic Hydraulic Principles Review” is available as a refresher.

Who Should Attend? – Federal, State, and local hydraulics personnel or other consulting engineers with responsibility for or desire to work with hydraulic analysis and design of highway river crossings.

Registration Information – Registrations are processed in the order they are submitted online, while seats are still available.  The registration fee is $1025 per person, as established by NHI.  No meals are provided; lunch is on your own. Any registrant requiring a reasonable accommodation during training (i.e., mobility or access) should contact Ohio LTAP prior to the course date so the appropriate arrangements can be made. Note: Registrants who will be unable to attend the training after registering are required to cancel a minimum of 21 days prior to the course start. Staff substitutions are encouraged.  No refunds will be processed for cancellations less than 21 days prior to course start.

Promo Code Information

FHWAOHDIV - Code to be used by Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Division Staff only when registering for LTAP courses.  Provides the FHWA LTAP discount on the course price.

ODOTEMPL - Code that must be used by ALL ODOT employees when registering for a course. Do not enter payment information or request an invoice.  If you are an ODOT employee, you MUST use this code unless the class is a NHI self-pay course.  See below.

PAYBYCHECK - ODOT EMPLOYEE ATTENDING A NHI-SELF-PAY COURSE - Use code PAYBYCHECK if you are an ODOT employee.  Then enter your Divison, Cost Center and SAC number in the designated field on the registration form.

PAYBYCHECK - This code should be entered when you want the Ohio LTAP Center to bill you for the course fee instead of paying immediately online via credit card.  Once your registration is completed with this code, an invoice for the amount due will be sent to you, due upon receipt.
