Background Description – Day 1 of this course summarizes the entire Certified Design Traffic process for the traffic forecaster and user, covering the basic information needed to obtain and interpret the results of a traffic forecast.  This class begins with background information on traffic forecast-ing, including an overview of the components of a traffic forecast and guide-lines for understanding forecast results. ODOT M&F policies and procedures are then covered to understand how state transportation projects are class-ified and the type of forecast that is required. The administrative process to obtain Certified Design Traffic is reviewed. Lastly, the student will learn how to obtain forecasts from TFMS, including how to read the output.  This class does not provide the technical detail required to develop a traffic forecast.

Instructors – Josh Kieselbach & Rebekah Straub with ODOT’s Office of Statewide Planning and Research.

Methodologies Description – Day 2 of this course is intended for the traffic forecaster. This class provides the procedures and technical detail required to develop a traffic forecast following ODOT M&F’s Design Traffic methodologies. Instruction is provided on the derivation of forecast parameters, intersection balancing techniques, trend line analysis, and NCHRP 255/765 model adjustments.

Who Should Attend? – This course offering through ODOT / LTAP is intended primarily for planners and engineers who develop design traffic.

Please note that all attendees will need to bring their own laptop computer with the necessary software for this course: Cube, Excel, Word, and either PowerPoint or a PDF viewer.
